Teltonika specifically positions the RUT260 around four strengths: LTE Cat 6 performance, interfaces, WAN failover and compact size.
4G LTE Cat 6 with Carrier Aggregation
The RUT260 uses an LTE Cat 6 modem with Carrier Aggregation, providing maximum theoretical speeds of:
- Download: up to 300 Mbps
- Upload: up to 50 Mbps
- 3G fallback: up to 42 Mbps download / 5.76 Mbps upload
Carrier Aggregation allows compatible mobile networks to combine LTE spectrum resources, providing better throughput than standard LTE Cat 4 routers.
This makes the RUT260 suitable for industrial installations that require more bandwidth while still maintaining a compact and cost-effective router design.
Automatic WAN Failover
One of the key features of the RUT260 is automatic network failover.
The router can use:
- 4G mobile
- Wired WAN
- Wi-Fi WAN
- VRRP
as network connectivity options, with automatic switching to an available backup connection if the primary WAN fails. It also supports load balancing across multiple WAN connections.
This is particularly useful for remote monitoring, industrial equipment, security systems and other applications where loss of internet connectivity could interrupt operations.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
The RUT260 includes 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi 4 and can operate as either:
- Access Point (AP)
- Station (STA)
It supports up to 50 simultaneous Wi-Fi connections and includes modern wireless features such as 802.11s wireless mesh, 802.11r fast roaming, 802.11v BSS transition management and 802.11k radio resource measurement.
Security options include WPA2 and WPA3, enterprise authentication, MAC filtering and protected management frames.
Ethernet Connectivity
The RUT260 provides two Fast Ethernet interfaces:
- 1 × 10/100 Mbps LAN
-
1 × 10/100 Mbps WAN, configurable as LAN
This provides a simple way to connect PLCs, industrial controllers, IoT gateways, computers, cameras and other Ethernet devices to a cellular network.
Industrial IoT Protocols
A major advantage of the RUT260 is its extensive built-in industrial protocol support.
Modbus TCP
The router can operate as both a:
- Modbus TCP Client
- Modbus TCP Server
It supports INT, UINT, floating-point, HEX and ASCII data formats, including ABCD, DCBA, CDAB and BADC 32-bit byte ordering.
MQTT & Data to Server
The RUT260 supports:
- MQTT
- MQTT Broker
- MQTT Publisher
- Modbus MQTT Gateway
- HTTP/HTTPS Data to Server
- Azure MQTT
- Custom Lua scripting
The Data to Server functionality can collect parameters from multiple sources and protocols and forward them to a central server or cloud platform.
Additional Industrial Protocols
The current firmware also supports:
- BACnet/IP
- OPC UA Client & Server
- DNP3 Station & Outstation
- DLMS/COSEM Client
These features make the RUT260 an excellent compact Industrial IoT gateway as well as a cellular router.
Digital Input & Output
The RUT260 provides:
- 1 × Digital Input
- 1 × Digital Open Collector Output
The input detects 0–6 V as logic low and 8–30 V as logic high.
The digital output supports a maximum of 30 V / 300 mA.
Events can trigger Email, RMS or SMS notifications, while Teltonika's I/O Juggler allows I/O conditions to initiate configurable actions.
This can be useful for applications such as equipment status monitoring, alarms, door monitoring and basic remote control.
Advanced Networking & VPN
Despite its small size, the RUT260 includes an extensive networking feature set including:
- Static and dynamic routing
- BGP
- OSPF
- RIP
- EIGRP
- NHRP
- Policy-based routing
- VLAN
- QoS / Smart Queue Management
- DHCP
- DDNS
- Firewall
- DNS over HTTPS
- Connection monitoring
- Load balancing
- Hotspot functionality
VPN and tunnelling technologies include:
- OpenVPN
- IPsec
- WireGuard
- ZeroTier
- DMVPN
- GRE
- L2TP
- PPTP
- SSTP
- Tinc
- Stunnel
Industrial Security
The RUT260 provides a comprehensive set of security features including:
- Configurable firewall
- DDoS prevention
- Port scan protection
- VLAN separation
- X.509 certificates
- RADIUS authentication
- TACACS+
- Mobile data quota control
- Website allow/block lists
- Certificate management
- 802.1X network access control
This makes it suitable for industrial networks where remote connectivity must be securely controlled.
Teltonika RMS Remote Management
The RUT260 supports the Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS) for remotely monitoring and managing deployed routers.
RMS can be used for:
- Remote device access
- Configuration
- Monitoring
- Alerts
- Firmware updates
- Troubleshooting
- Managing multiple deployed routers
The RUT260 also supports management through WebUI, SSH, SMS, TR-069, MQTT, SNMP and JSON-RPC.
The Teltonika flyer specifically highlights RMS Management, Alerts, Configuration, Access and FOTA as key remote-management capabilities.
Compact Rugged Industrial Design
One of the strongest advantages of the RUT260 is its compact size.
The enclosure measures only:
83 × 25 × 74 mm
and weighs approximately 130 g.
Despite the small footprint, it uses an aluminium housing with plastic panels and operates from -40°C to +75°C. DIN rail, wall and flat-surface mounting options are available with additional mounting kits.
This makes the RUT260 particularly suitable for small electrical cabinets, control panels, kiosks and other installations where space is limited.
Flexible 9–30 VDC Power
The RUT260 accepts 9–30 VDC through its industrial 4-pin connector and incorporates reverse-polarity and surge/transient protection.
Power consumption is low:
- Idle: <2 W
- Maximum: <6.5 W
The router can also be powered through passive PoE using the LAN port. This is Mode B 9–30 VDC passive PoE and is not compatible with IEEE 802.3af/at/bt PoE.
