The four headline capabilities identified by Teltonika are LTE Cat 6, SFP fibre connectivity, Wi-Fi and dual power.
4G LTE Cat 6 with Carrier Aggregation
The RUTXR1 provides 4G LTE Cat 6 mobile connectivity with maximum theoretical speeds of:
- Download: up to 300 Mbps
- Upload: up to 50 Mbps
- 3G fallback: up to 42 Mbps download / 5.76 Mbps upload
Carrier Aggregation allows compatible mobile networks to combine LTE spectrum resources for increased throughput, making the RUTXR1 suitable as either the primary internet connection or a cellular backup for fixed-line infrastructure.
Dual SIM with Automatic Failover
The RUTXR1 includes two external Mini SIM slots and sophisticated automatic SIM switching.
The router can automatically switch SIM cards based on conditions including:
- Weak mobile signal
- Data limit
- SMS limit
- Roaming
- No network
- Network denied
- Data connection failure
- SIM idle protection
This allows SIM cards from different mobile network operators to be installed, providing another level of redundancy for mission-critical installations.
SFP Fibre Connectivity
A major differentiating feature of the RUTXR1 is its integrated SFP port for fibre-optic connectivity.
The router provides:
- 1 × SFP optical interface
- 1 × Gigabit Ethernet WAN
- 4 × Gigabit LAN
The SFP interface is particularly useful in enterprise, industrial and infrastructure networks requiring long-distance fibre communication or electrical isolation between network segments.
Important: the datasheet specifies that the SFP port and Ethernet WAN port cannot operate simultaneously.
5 × Gigabit Ethernet Ports
Unlike smaller industrial Teltonika routers, the RUTXR1 provides extensive wired connectivity:
- 4 × 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN ports
- 1 × 10/100/1000 Mbps WAN port
- WAN can be configured as LAN
This allows several servers, controllers, switches, gateways, computers or other Ethernet devices to connect directly to the router without requiring an additional Ethernet switch in smaller installations.
Dual-Band Wi-Fi 5
The RUTXR1 incorporates 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi 5 with:
- 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band operation
- Maximum data rates up to 867 Mbps
- MU-MIMO
- Access Point mode
- Station mode
- Up to 150 simultaneous Wi-Fi clients
- 802.11s wireless mesh
- 802.11r fast roaming
- 802.11v BSS transition management
- 802.11k radio resource measurement
This makes the RUTXR1 considerably more suitable for enterprise Wi-Fi applications than basic industrial routers with single-band Wi-Fi.
Dual Redundant Power Inputs
One of the strongest reliability features of the RUTXR1 is its dual power supply architecture.
The router provides:
2 × 4-pin industrial DC power sockets
for:
- Main power
- Redundant backup power
Both support 9–50 VDC input with reverse polarity and surge/transient protection.
Power consumption is:
This allows the router to remain operational if one external power source fails, making it well suited to critical communications infrastructure.
Automatic WAN Failover & Load Balancing
The RUTXR1 provides extensive network redundancy options.
Available WAN sources include:
- 4G LTE
- Ethernet WAN
- SFP fibre
- Wi-Fi WAN
- VRRP
These connections can be configured for automatic failover, while load balancing can distribute internet traffic across multiple available WAN connections.
Combined with dual SIM and dual power, this gives the RUTXR1 multiple layers of redundancy:
Power redundancy → SIM redundancy → WAN redundancy → connection monitoring
This is one of the key reasons to choose the RUTXR1 for critical remote and enterprise infrastructure.
Industrial IoT Gateway Functions
Although positioned as an enterprise router, the RUTXR1 also contains extensive industrial IoT functionality.
Modbus
The router supports:
- Modbus TCP Client
- Modbus TCP Server
- Modbus via USB
- Custom Modbus registers
