Teltonika TRM250 Industrial Rugged USB Cellular LTE Cat-M1/NB-IoT Modem
The Teltonika TRM250 is a compact industrial cellular modem designed to add reliable LTE Cat M1, NB-IoT and 2G connectivity to existing industrial equipment through USB.
Unlike the TRM240, which is designed around LTE Cat 1 for higher data throughput, the TRM250 focuses on LPWAN cellular connectivity, making it particularly suitable for remote monitoring, telemetry, utilities, industrial IoT and other applications where low data rates, broad cellular technology support and long-term deployments are important.
Teltonika describes the TRM250 as an industrial-grade modem with multiple LPWAN options, including LTE Cat M1 and NB-IoT, with 2G backward compatibility. It combines these technologies with a USB interface, external cellular antenna and durable aluminium enclosure.

LTE Cat M1 & NB-IoT Connectivity
The key advantage of the TRM250 is its support for two major cellular LPWAN technologies:
LTE Cat M1 (LTE-M) and NB-IoT.
These cellular technologies are designed for IoT and machine-to-machine applications that typically require lower data rates than conventional broadband LTE connections.
The TRM250 supports:
| Cellular Technology |
Maximum Data Rate |
| LTE Cat M1 |
375 kbps DL / 375 kbps UL |
| NB-IoT Cat NB1 |
32 kbps DL / 70 kbps UL |
| 2G |
296 kbps DL / 236.8 kbps UL |
The current TRM250 specification identifies the modem as a 3GPP Release 12 device.
Designed for Industrial IoT & Remote Monitoring
The TRM250 is particularly well suited to applications where equipment needs cellular connectivity but does not require the higher bandwidth, Ethernet, Wi-Fi or routing capabilities of a complete industrial router.
Typical applications include:
- Remote telemetry
- Industrial IoT
- Energy monitoring
- Water monitoring
- Environmental monitoring
- Utility infrastructure
- Remote equipment monitoring
- Data acquisition
- Embedded systems
- Smart city infrastructure
- Industrial computers
- Kiosks and terminals
- M2M communications
For applications transmitting relatively small amounts of telemetry or status data, LTE-M and NB-IoT can provide a more IoT-focused cellular solution than conventional broadband LTE.
Upgrade Existing Equipment with Cellular Connectivity
The TRM250 provides a straightforward way to add cellular connectivity to compatible existing equipment.
Instead of replacing an industrial computer, controller or embedded system with a cellular-enabled model, the TRM250 connects to the host through USB and provides the cellular communications interface.
This makes it suitable for upgrading compatible:
- Industrial computers
- Controllers
- IoT gateways
- Monitoring systems
- Embedded devices
- Data loggers
- Telemetry systems
- Remote terminals
- Industrial automation equipment
USB Connectivity & Power
The TRM250 uses microUSB for its host interface and power supply.
Power requirements are:
- 5 VDC via microUSB
- Maximum power consumption: 3.6 W
This compact USB-based architecture simplifies integration where a suitable USB host and power source are already available.
External Cellular Antenna
The TRM250 provides:
1 × SMA connector for the mobile antenna
The external antenna arrangement gives installers flexibility in antenna selection and positioning.
This is particularly useful where the modem is installed inside a control cabinet, equipment enclosure or other location where positioning the cellular antenna away from the host equipment can improve signal reception.
Rugged Industrial Construction
The TRM250 is housed in a durable aluminium enclosure, making it better suited to fixed industrial installations than conventional consumer USB cellular dongles.
The device measures approximately:
74.5 × 25 × 64.5 mm
and weighs only:
130 g
Its compact dimensions make it suitable for installation inside equipment cabinets and other space-constrained industrial environments.
Wide Operating Temperature
The TRM250 is designed for operation between:
-40°C and +75°C
with:
10% to 90% non-condensing humidity
and an enclosure ingress protection rating of:
IP30
This broad operating temperature range makes the modem suitable for many demanding indoor industrial and protected equipment installations.
Flexible Mounting Options
The TRM250 supports:
- DIN rail mounting
- Wall mounting
- Flat-surface mounting
The applicable additional mounting kit is required.
DIN rail mounting is particularly useful for integration into industrial control cabinets, switchboards and automation panels.
SIM Card Support
The TRM250 provides:
1 × Mini SIM (2FF) slot
supporting 1.8 V and 3 V SIM cards.
The SIM is installed internally behind the removable front panel.
Software & Driver Support
The TRM250 provides software and driver support for integration with common host operating systems, including:
- Windows Connection Manager
- Windows USB drivers
- Windows CE support
- Linux USB drivers
- Android support
- Android RIL driver
- Windows NDIS driver
- Linux Gobinet driver
- Linux driver support
This makes the modem suitable for integration with a range of industrial computers and embedded platforms.
AT Command Control
For developers and system integrators, the TRM250 can be controlled using 3GPP TS27.007 and enhanced AT commands.
This allows compatible host applications to interact directly with the cellular modem for customised industrial and OEM integrations.
Global Cellular Frequency Support
The current TRM250 is listed by Teltonika as a Global hardware version.
Supported frequencies include:
LTE-FDD: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B8, B12, B13, B18, B19, B20, B26 and B28
LTE-TDD: B39 for Cat M1
2G: B2, B3, B5 and B8
The standard package order code is:
TRM250000000
This global frequency configuration includes LTE Band 28, an important cellular band used extensively in Australian mobile networks. Actual LTE-M and NB-IoT service availability depends on the selected mobile carrier, SIM service and deployment location.
