MB8450 MaxBotix Ultrasonic Car Detection Sensor
The MB8450 Car Detection Sensor is a low‑cost vehicle detection sensor that uses ultrasonic technology for non-contact sensing. The MB8450 is designed to be an easy to use the sensor for applications where vehicle detection is desired. This sensor is great for applications such as vehicle kiosks, ATMs, and bank drive thru’s.
The MB8450 Car Detection Sensor provides a component module solution that offers an easy to use interface, calibrated beam patterns, stable range and proximity information, and a host of other features detailed in the product datasheets.
The Interface
The MB8450 Car Detection Sensor interface was designed to be easy and intuitive to use. The interface is an easy to use Micro-B USB connection, the same connection used on many smartphones.
The Controlled Beam Shape
The MB8450 Car Detection Sensor offers a controlled beam that is designed to reject small objects (clutter) outside of the central beam area without detecting frivolous or unwanted targets.
The Calibration
Each MB8450 Car Detection Sensor is tested for proper operation at our facility and comes with a factory calibrated beam pattern to ensure consistent operation of the sensor even from part‑to‑part.
The MB8450 Car Detection Sensor automatically calibrates to its environment after power-up, before taking the first reading. Because this power-up calibration only occurs on power-up, it is recommended that users power off and then on the sensor when temperature or humidity conditions change.
